Removing and installing gearbox support (left and right) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-

t  Gearbox support -3282-

t  Adjustment plate -3282/19- Removing   WARNING The weight of the gearbox must be supported as described here if both gearbox supports are removed. It is not necessary to use engine and gearbox jack if only one of the supports is removed.

–  Set up gearbox support -3282- on engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-. –  Place adjustment plate -3282/19- on gearbox support -3282- (adjustment plate only fits in one position). –  Align arms of gearbox support according to holes in adjustment plate. –  Attach support elements as illustrated on adjustment plate.

–  Place engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- with gearbox support -3282- underneath gearbox and support gearbox.   Note The arrow symbol on the adjustment plate points in the direction of travel.

Gearbox support (left-side): l  Front exhaust pipe (left-side) with starter catalytic converter and main catalytic converter removed. –  If fitted, remove heat shield -C-. –  Detach gearbox support -D- (left-side) from gearbox by unscrewing bolts -A-.

Gearbox support (right-side) l  Front exhaust pipe (right-side) with starter catalytic converter and main catalytic converter (where fitted) removed. –  If fitted, remove heat shield -C-. –  Detach gearbox support -D- (right-side) from gearbox by unscrewing bolts -A-.

Gearbox support (left and right): –  Remove gearbox support -E-.   Note In vehicles equipped with hydraulic gearbox mountings -H-, bolt -G- is screwed directly into the gearbox mounting, so the items -C- and -B- are not fitted. Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:   Note Renew self-locking nuts. Tightening torques
