Description and Operation

Heat exchanger / evaporator housing

The heat exchanger/evaporator housing contains the blower motor, the pollen filter, the heat exchanger, the evaporator (on vehicles with air conditioning (A/C)), the electric booster heater (if equipped) and various diverter flaps.

Blower motor

CAUTION:Do not put the blower motor down on the blower motor fan wheel.

To prevent damage to the fan wheel vanes, the fan wheel must not be touched. Because of this, a new special tool (412-131) has been introduced for removal and installation of the blower motor. This tool is locked on the central spindle and allows the blower motor to be lifted out.

Heat exchanger

The heat exchanger is accessible from the right-hand side of the heat exchanger/ evaporator housing (LHD and RHD vehicles) and can be replaced with the housing installed. For this purpose, the coolant lines of the factory-installed heat exchanger must be sawn through on vehicles built from 10/2004. The service heat exchanger is supplied with severed coolant lines and quick connectors.

Evaporator

The evaporator can be accessed from the right-hand side of the heat exchanger/ evaporator housing (LHD and RHD vehicles). To replace the evaporator, the heat exchanger/ evaporator housing must be removed.
