Pinpoint Tests

PINPOINT TEST A : THE IGNITION SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE

TEST CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
A1: CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH CONNECTOR
1
Remove the steering column shrouds and check the ignition switch connector.

Is the ignition switch connector clean and secure?
Yes
No
CLEAN and SECURE the ignition switch connector as required. TEST the system for normal operation.
A2: CHECK THE BATTERY JUNCTION BOX FUSE 10 (20A)
1
Ignition switch in position 0.
2
CHECK Fuse 10 (20A).
3
Check the fuse 10 (20A).

Is fuse OK?
Yes
No
INSTALL a new fuse 10 (20A). TEST the system for normal operation. If the fuse fails again, CHECK for short to ground. REPAIR as necessary.
A3: CHECK FOR OPEN ON CIRCUIT 30-BB9 (RD)
1
Disconnect Fuse 10 (20A).
2
Disconnect Ignition switch C456.

3
Measure the resistance between the ignition switch, C456 pin 1, circuit 30-BB9 (RD) harness side and fuse 10 (20A) loadside, circuit 30-BB9 (RD) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to the procedure in this Section. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit 30-BB9 (RD). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : NO POWER IN ACC

TEST CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
B1: CHECK THE RADIO AND CLOCK OPERATION
1
Ignition switch in position I.
2
Check the radio and clock operation.

Do the radio and clock operate?
Yes
INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to the procedure in this Section. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
B2: CHECK FOR OPEN ON CIRCUIT 75-DA1 (YE)
1
Disconnect Fuse 10 (20A).
2
Disconnect Ignition switch C456.
3
Disconnect Radio C443b.

4
Measure the resistance between the ignition switch C456 pin 8, circuit 75-DA1 (YE) harness side and radio C443b pin 3, circuit 75-MD15 (YE/GN) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR the circuit 75-DA1 (YE), 75-MD15 (YE/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
B3: CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH
1
Carry out the ignition switch component test, refer to the wiring diagram cell 700-09.

Does the ignition switch test OK?
Yes
No
INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to the procedure in this Section. TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST C : NO POWER IN RUN

TEST CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
C1: CHECK THE RADIO AND CLOCK OPERATION
1
Ignition switch in position I.
2
Check the radio and clock operation.

Do the radio and clock operate?
Yes
No
C2: CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH
1
Carry out the ignition switch component test, refer to the wiring diagram.

Does the ignition switch test OK?
Yes
No
INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to the procedure in this Section. TEST the system for normal operation.
C3: CHECK FOR OPEN ON CIRCUITS 15-DA1 (GN) AND 15-DA2 (GN/BU)
1
Disconnect F10 (20A).
2
Disconnect Ignition switch C456.

3
Measure the resistance between the ignition switch C456 pin 4 harness side and the ignition relay C59 pin 2 in the central junction box (CJB).

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit 15-DA1 (GN) and 15-DA2 (GN/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
