Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.

2. Remove the rear wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Wheels and Tires.

3. Remove the rear brake disc. For additional information, refer to Disc Brake System.

4. Remove the bolt and position aside the wheel speed sensor.

5. Remove the differential housing cover and drain the lubricant. For additional information, refer to Differential Housing Cover  See: Differential

Assembly/Differential Cover/Service and Repair/Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Ford 8.8-Inch Ring Gear.

6. Remove the differential pinion shaft.

1. Remove and discard the bolt.

2. Remove the differential pinion shaft.

7. NOTE:  Do not damage the rubber O-ring in the U-washer groove.

Remove the U-washer.

1. Push the axle shaft inboard.

2. Remove the U-washer.
