Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove torsional damper outlined as follows:
a. Remove fan shroud, then the fan and fan clutch assembly.
NOTE: The fan clutch retaining nut has lefthand threads.
b. Remove drive belts, then raise and support vehicle.
c. Remove crankshaft pulley.
d. Remove damper to crankshaft attaching bolt then the damper.
e. Pry old crankshaft seal out of cover.
3. To install new seal on engine without three weld nuts on front cover, position seal into seal installation tool No. T83T-6700-B, or equivalent, and
install cover over end of crankshaft. Install tool No. T83T-6316-B, or equivalent, over installation tool and tighten nut against tool and washer to
seat seal.
4. To install new seal on engines with three weld nuts on front cover, position seal in installation tool No. T83T-6700-A, or equivalent, and install
over the end of crankshaft. Attach bridge to weld nuts and draw seal into front cover by turning center screw clockwise.
NOTE: Prior to installation, lubricate oil seal with DOAZ-19584-A, or equivalent.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
