Back plate grease
Thermopaul No.1 grease
Removal
Remove the handbrake gaiter.
Slacken the handbrake cable (one nut).
Slacken the wheel nuts, raise the vehicle and remove the rear road wheel.
Remove the brake drum.
Remove the retainer.
Remove the drum.
Remove the hold down springs.
CAUTION:
Do not damage the wheel cylinder dust covers when disengaging the shoe assembly.
Disengage the shoes from the wheel cylinder.
Hold the wheel cylinder pistons in place with an elastic band.
Disengage the shoes from the abutment bracket.
Remove the lower pull-off spring.
Detach the handbrake cable.
Remove the upper pull-off spring.
Disengage the leading shoe from the strut support.
Pull the leading shoe away from the strut support.
Disengage the shoe.
Detach the trailing shoe from the strut support.
Twist the strut support through 90°.
Detach the spring.
Installation
CAUTION:
Do not damage the wheel cylinder dust covers when engaging the shoes.
NOTE:
Make sure the brake shoe adjuster is fully backed off on assembly.
Clean, check and apply grease to the back plate and abutment bracket contact points.
Refit the components in reverse order.
Adjust the handbrake (refer to procedure contained in this section).
