Power Steering - Power Steering Pump—1.25L/1.4L Zetec-SE (Sigma)/1.6L, Vehicles With: Air Conditioning Fiesta 1996 (08/1995-02/2002)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  1. Raise the vehicle.

  1. Drain the power steering fluid.
    • Disconnect the fluid cooler pipe and allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Remove the lower belt cover.

  1. Remove the drive belt.
    1. Rotate the belt tensioner in an anticlockwise direction.
    1. Remove the drive belt from the pulleys.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  1. Detach the coolant expansion tank and relocate.
    1. Remove the expansion tank retaining screw.
    1. Unclip the coolant pipe from the throttle cable.
    1. Ease the expansion tank upwards from the securing bracket.

  1. Detach the power steering pipe securing bracket.

  1. Disconnect the high-pressure pipe and low-pressure hose from the power steering pump.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Remove the drive belt tensioner (one bolt).

  1. Remove the power steering pump and bracket assembly (three nuts).

  1. Remove the power steering pump pulley.

  1. Remove the power steering pump from the bracket.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If the power steering pump is being renewed the unions that are supplied fitted to the pump should be removed and retained for future use.
    Renew the union sealing ring.
    1. Push the sealing ring onto the tool.
    1. Locate the tool on the union and push on the sealing ring.

  1. Refit the components in the reverse order.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the pulley is flush with the end of the power steering pump shaft.

  1. Bleed the power steering system (refer to procedure contained in this section).
