Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Remove the battery. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section  501-12 Instrument Panel and Console.
  1. Remove the front seats. For additional information, refer to Section  501-10 Seating.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Remove the exhaust rear heat shield.

  1. Detach the exhaust front heat shield from the body.
Vehicles with 5-speed automatic transaxle

  1. Detach the selector lever cable from the retaining bracket.
All vehicles
  1. Lower the vehicle.
Vehicles with 4-speed automatic transaxle

  1. Detach the selector lever cable from the transaxle.
    1. Press the tabs together and pull the selector lever cable upwards out of the bracket.
    1. Detach the selector cable from the manual control lever.
Vehicles with 5-speed automatic transaxle

  1. Detach the selector lever cable from the transaxle.
    1. Detach the selector cable bracket from the transaxle.
    1. Detach the selector cable from the manual control lever.
All vehicles
  1. Detach the hood lock remote handle.

  1. Remove the rocker panel covers.
    1. Detach the door weatherstrips from the lower door aperture.
    1. Detach the clips and remove the screws.

  1. Remove the footwell rear heating nozzle.
    1. Remove the bezel.
    1. Remove the retaining nuts.

  1. Remove the footwell rear heating channel retaining nut.

  1. Detach the top and bottom cover from the handbrake lever.
  1. Detach the carpet from the front footwell.
    • Detach the carpet from the accelerator pedal stop.
    • Remove the clips.

  1. Remove the instrument panel strut.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The key release cable must not be excessively bent or twisted.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make a note of the routing of the key release cable.
    Detach the key release cable from the selector lever assembly.
    1. Remove the retaining bolt.
    1. Detach the key release cable from the selector lever actuator.

  1. Remove the selector lever cable from the selector lever.
    • Shift the selector lever to "P" (park) position:
    1. Detach the selector lever cable from the selector lever shift actuator.
    1. Detach the selector lever cable from the bracket.

  1. Remove the heater duct (three nuts).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The selector lever cable must not be excessively bent or twisted.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make a note of the routing of the selector lever cable.
    Remove the selector lever cable.
    • Detach the blanking cover from the body.

Installation

All vehicles

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The selector lever cable must not be excessively bent or twisted.
    Install the selector lever cable.
    • Position the selector lever cable into the inside of the passenger compartment.
    • Install the blanking cover.

  1. Install the heater duct (three nuts).

  1. Install the selector lever cable to the selector lever.
    • Shift the transaxle selector lever into "P" position.
    1. Attach the selector lever cable to the selector lever shift actuator.
    1. Attach the selector lever cable to the bracket.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The key release cable must not be excessively bent or twisted.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the selector lever is in the park position.
    Attach the key release cable to the selector lever assembly.
    1. Attach the key release cable to the selector lever actuator.
    1. Install the retaining bolt.

  1. Install the instrument panel strut.
  1. Attach the carpet to the front footwell.
    • Attach the carpet to the accelerator pedal stop
    • Install the clips.

  1. Attach the bottom and top cover to the handbrake lever.

  1. Install the footwell rear heating channel retaining nut.

  1. Install the footwell rear heating nozzle.
    1. Install the retaining nuts.
    1. Install the bezel.

  1. Install the rocker panel covers.
    1. Install the screws (four screws) and attach the clips.
    1. Attach the door weatherstrips to the lower door aperture.
  1. Attach the hood lock remote handle.
Vehicles with 5-speed automatic transaxle

  1. Attach the selector lever cable to the transaxle.
    1. Attach the selector cable to the manual control lever.
    1. Attach the selector lever cable bracket to the transaxle.
Vehicles with 4-speed automatic transaxle

  1. Attach the selector lever cable to the transaxle.
    1. Attach the selector cable to the manual control lever to the manual control lever.
    1. Press the tabs together and push in the selector lever cable into the bracket.
All vehicles
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.
Vehicles with 5-speed automatic transaxle

  1. Attach the selector lever cable to the cable bracket.
All vehicles

  1. Attach the exhaust front heat shield to the body.

  1. Install the exhaust rear heat shield.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Adjust the selector lever cable.

  1. Install the front seats. For additional information, refer to Section  501-10 Seating.
  1. Install the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section  501-12 Instrument Panel and Console.
  1. Install the battery. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
