Heating and Ventilation - Heater Core Housing Galaxy 2000.75 (04/2000-02/2006)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section  303-03A Engine Cooling / 303-03B Engine Cooling.
  1. Drain the air condition system. For additional information, refer to Section  412-00 Climate Control System - General Information.
  1. Remove the upper instrument panel. For additional information, refer to Section  501-12 Instrument Panel and Console.
  1. Remove the lower instrument panel. For additional information, refer to Section  501-12 Instrument Panel and Console.

  1. Disconnect the side window air ducts from the heater core housing.
    • Release the locking tang.
  1. Remove the wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft. For additional information, refer to Section  501-16 Wipers and Washers.

  1. Detach the horn.

  1. Remove the horn mounting bracket.

  1. Remove the air distribution channel right-hand retaining nut.

  1. Remove the pollen filter.
    • Release the locking tang.

  1. Remove the pollen filter housing.

  1. Remove the air distribution channel left-hand retaining nut.

  1. Remove the air distribution channel.

  1. Remove the steering column upper shroud.

  1. Remove the steering column lower shroud.

  1. Detach the multifunction switches wiring harness from the steering column.
    1. Remove the ground connection retaining nut.
    1. Unclip the wiring harness.

  1. Disconnect the multifunction switches electrical connectors.
    • Detach the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver.

  1. Disconnect the multifunction switch assembly electrical connectors.

  1. Remove the multifunction switch assembly.

  1. Remove the fuse box cover.

  1. Detach the fuse box.
    1. Remove the fuse box bracket retaining bolt.
    1. Release the locking tangs.

  1. Detach the multifunction switches wiring harness.
    1. Remove the ground connection retaining nut.
    1. Unclip the wiring harness.

  1. Detach the center console wiring harness from the crashbar.

  1. Remove the right-hand ground connection retaining nut from the crashbar.

  1. Remove the left-hand ground connection retaining nut from the crashbar.

  1. Remove the crash bar retaining bolts from the bulkhead.

  1. Remove the crash bar retaining bolt from the pedal box.

  1. Detach the heater core housing wiring harness from the crashbar.

  1. Detach the main wiring harness from the crashbar.

  1. Remove the crash bar retaining bolts from the heater core housing.

  1. Remove the crash bar.

  1. Disconnect the heater core housing upper electrical connectors.
    • Detach the wiring harness.

  1. Disconnect the heater core housing lower electrical connectors.

  1. Disconnect the heater core housing right-hand electrical connectors.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:Cap the refrigerant lines and the thermostatic expansion valve to prevent dirt ingress.

  1. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the thermostatic expansion valve.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.

  1. Remove the thermostatic expansion valve.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.

  1. Remove the heater core housing.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new O-ring seals.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Coat the O-ring seals in clean refrigerant oil prior to installation.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
