Steering Column Switches - Ignition Switch Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
Removal and Installation

General Equipment
Electric hand drill
Stud extractor

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  404-01 .

  1. Remove the steering column lower shroud.
Vehicles with 2.5L (200 PS) engine
  1. Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to Section  211-04 Steering Column.

  1. Remove the passive anti - theft system (PATS) transceiver.

  1. Using a suitable Electric hand drill and Stud extractor remove the upper steering lock shield retaining bolts.

  1. Using a suitable electric hand drill and stud extractor remove the lower steering lock shield retaining bolts.
    • Remove the steering lock shield.
All vehicles
  1. Remove the ignition switch.
    1. Remove the retaining screws.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.

Installation

All vehicles
  1. Install the ignition switch.
    1. Connect the electrical connector.
    1. Install the retaining screws.

  1. Install the steering column lower shield.
Vehicles with 2.5L (200 PS) engine
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:When installing the steering lock shield make sure that no cables are trapped or damaged.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The steering lock shield retaining bolts are designed to shear at the specified torque.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The steering lock shield retaining bolts must be hand started before tightening with a power tool.
    Install the steering lock shield.

  1. Install the PATS transceiver.
  1. Install the steering column. For additional information, refer to Section  211-04 Steering Column.
All vehicles
  1. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
