Fuel Charging and Controls - 1.8L Diesel - Fuel Injection Timing Solenoid Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
CAUTION:Diesel fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. It is therefore essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components. Always fit blanking plugs to any open orifices or lines.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Detach the fuel injection pump wiring harness from the clip.

  1. Disconnect the fuel injection pump wiring harness electrical connector.

  1. Pull back the fuel injection pump wiring harness protection to expose the wiring.
    • Using a suitable small flat blade screwdriver, detach the adhesive bonding between the fuel injection pump wiring harness electrical connector and the fuel injection pump wiring harness protection.

  1. Using the special tool, remove the pin cover from the electrical connector.

  1. Using the special tool, remove pins 4 and 6 from the electrical connector.
  1. Remove the wires from the fuel injection pump wiring harness protection.

  1. Remove the rubber cap from the fuel injection timing solenoid.
  1. Clean the area around the fuel injection timing solenoid to prevent foreign material entering the fuel injection pump.

  1. Remove the fuel injection timing solenoid from the fuel injection pump.

Installation

    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new fuel injection timing solenoid O-ring seal.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
