Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - Low One-Way Clutch Assembly Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
Disassembly and Assembly of Subassemblies

Disassembly

  1. Inspect the low one-way clutch components:
    1. Inspect the inner race.
    1. Inspect the roller assembly.
    1. Inspect the outer race.
    1. Identification groove
    1. Identification groove

  1. Position the low one-way clutch so that the inner and outer race grooves are facing upward.

  1. Remove the inner race.

  1. Remove the roller assembly.
  1. Clean all parts thoroughly in clean solvent and blow dry with moisture-free regulated compressed air.
  1. Inspect the low one-way clutch parts for damage and wear.
    • Inspect the outer race.
    • Inspect the roller assembly.
    • Inspect the inner race.
    • Inspect the lubrication holes.

Assembly

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Outer tabs of the roller assembly must face up.
    Install the roller assembly into the outer race.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The inner race groove must be facing upwards.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:To aid the inner race installation, rotate the inner race clockwise during installation.
    Install the inner race into the roller assembly.
    1. Align tabs with the locating groove.

  1. Check the operation of the one-way clutch as follows:
    1. Hold the outer race in place.
    1. Turn the inner race clockwise. It must be possible to turn the inner race slowly against the outer race.
    1. Turn the inner race anti-clockwise. The inner race should force the outer race to turn in the same direction.
