Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Remover/Installer, Cooling Hose Clamp

303-397 (24-003)

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Drain the cooling system.
    For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling And Bleeding in this section.

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the coolant de-gas hoses from the thermostat housing.

  1. Disconnect the radiator top hose from the thermostat housing.

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler coolant hose.

  1. Remove the thermostat housing.
    • Discard the O-ring seal.

  1. Remove the thermostat outlet connector retaining bolts.

  1. Remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing.
    • Discard the O-ring seal.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new O-ring seals.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
