Remove the radiator grille. | | -
Remove the transmission fluid cooler retaining bolts. | | -
Remove the radiator undershield. | | -
Remove the left-hand duct (front bumper cover shown removed for clarity). | Vehicles built up to 03/2003 | -
WARNING:When releasing the transaxle cooling system fluid, take care to prevent fluid scalding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. CAUTION:Plug the fluid cooler tubes to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress. NOTE:Mark the position of the feed and return hoses to aid installation. Disconnect the feed and return hose from the transmission fluid cooler. - Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

NOTE:Cap the fluid cooler openings to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress. Using the special tool, disconnect the fluid cooler pipes. - Insert the special tool into the quick release coupling.
- Slide the special tool along the pipe to release the locking tangs.
- Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

Remove the transmission fluid cooler. - Lift the transmission fluid cooler off the bracket.

Install the transmission fluid cooler. - Push the transmission fluid cooler into the bracket holes.

NOTE:Align the marks on the feed and return hoses. Connect the feed and the return hose to the transmission fluid cooler. | Vehicles built 03/2003 onwards | -
Connect the fluid cooler pipes. | All vehicles | -
Install the left-hand duct (front bumper cover shown removed for clarity). | | -

CAUTION:If a new transmission fluid cooler has been installed, make sure that the active bypass valve was open, before checking the transmission fluid level. The active bypass valve opens at a temperature above 77°C. | |
