NOTE:
NOTE:A new transmission must be installed if any swarf is found in the transmission. In this case a new transmission fluid cooler must also be installed. This prevents the risk of any swarf that may be contained in the coolant circuit destroying the new transmission or having an adverse affect on the function of the bypass valve.
NOTE:
NOTE:New transmissions are "overfilled". This means that a new transmission already contains the quantity of fluid required to fill the transmission fluid cooling circuit.

On vehicles with a diesel engine the transmission fluid cooler and the A/C condenser are integrated into a joint component. In this case the lower third is taken up with the transmission fluid cooler.

The 2.5L Duratec engine is equipped with a separate transmission fluid cooler.

An active bypass valve is integrated into the oil circuit on both variants for faster heating of the transmission fluid. This bypass valve operates in a similar way to a thermostat and opens the flow through to the transmission fluid cooler from a temperature of around 74 - 88 °C. This ensures that the transmission fluid quickly reaches operating temperature.
