Installation

  1. Using a suitable transmission jack , install the transaxle.

  1. Install the transmission left-hand retaining bolts.
    1. Install the bolt from the engine side.
    1. Install the bolts from the transaxle side.

  1. Install the transmission right-hand retaining bolts.

  1. Install the transmission upper retaining bolts.
    • Attach the ground cables to the transaxle.

  1. Install the rear engine mounting bracket.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Raise the engine and transmission assembly using the special tools.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Renew the rear engine mounting nut.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the rear engine mounting nut at this stage.
    Screw on the rear engine mounting nut.

  1. Remove the special tools.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the spring clip is correctly installed.
    Attach the high-pressure pipe on the clutch slave cylinder to the transmission.
    • Fit the spring clip.

  1. Connect the plug to the reversing lamp switch.
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Connect the starter motor electrical connectors.
    • Clip in the wiring harness connector.

  1. Attach the gearshift cables to the transaxle.
    1. Install the cables to the retaining bracket, turning the abutment sleeves counter clockwise.
    1. Attach the cables to the transaxle, press the tabs into the ball and socket.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bentmore than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not damage the halfshaft oil seal.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the snap ring is correctly seated.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new snap ring.
    Attach the left-hand halfshaft to the transmission.

  1. Install the center bearing bracket.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not damage the halfshaft oil seal.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new center bearing cap and locknuts.
    Attach the right-hand halfshaft and the intermediate shaft to the transmission.
    • Install the center bearing cap.

  1. Connect the connector for the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).

  1. Install the accessory drive belt cover.
  1. Attach the subframe. For additional information, refer to Section  502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System.

  1. Tighten the rear engine mounting nut.

  1. Attach the air cowl grille.

  1. Tighten the suspension strut top nuts on both sides.

  1. Attach the suspension strut covers on both sides.

  1. Fit the air cleaner.
    1. Connect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.
    1. Attach the clamp to the air cleaner intake hose to the engine.

  1. Install the upper engine cover.
  1. Check the level of the transmission fluid.

  1. Adjust the gearshift cables For additional information, refer to Section  308-00 Manual Transmission/Transaxle and Clutch - General Information.
  1. Bleed the hydraulic clutch system. For additional information, refer to Section  308-00 Manual Transmission/Transaxle and Clutch - General Information.
  1. Connect the battery negative lead. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
