Refer to Wiring Diagrams Section 417-01, for schematic and connector information.

Inspection and Checking

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for the following mechanical and electrical causes of the concern.

  1. Resolve any obvious causes or concerns found during the visual inspection before carrying out any further tests.
  1. If the concern persists, check the symptoms and continue with the symptom chart.

System Checks

PINPOINT TEST A : STOPLAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE

A1: CHECK FUSE F13 (CJB)

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect fuse F13 (CJB).
3
CHECK fuse F13 (15 A) (CJB).

Is the fuse OK.?
Yes
No
RENEW fuse F13 (15 A) and CHECK the operation of the system. If the fuse blows again, LOCATE and REPAIR the short to ground using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
A2: CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT FUSE F13 (CJB)

Connect fuse F13 (CJB).

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between fuse F13 (15 A) and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
No
REPAIR the voltage supply to fuse F13 (CJB) using the Wiring Diagrams, RENEW the CJB if necessary. CHECK the operation of the system.
A3: CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE STOPLAMP SWITCH

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect stoplamp switch from connector C62.
3
Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between the stoplamp switch, connector C62, pin 1, circuit 14-LG23 (VT/WH), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the break in circuit 14-DA7 (VT/YE) or 14-LG23 (VT/WH), between fuse F13 (CJB) and the stoplamp switch using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
A4: CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH

Ignition switch in position 0.

Connect a fused jumper wire (15 A)to the stoplamp switch, connector C62, between pin 1, circuit 14-LG23 (VT/WH) and pin 2, circuit 14S-LG14 (VT) and 14S-CF58 (VT/OG), wiring harness side.

Ignition switch in position II.

CHECK the operation of the stoplamps.

Do the stoplamps illuminate?
Yes
RENEW the stoplamp switch. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the break in circuit 14S-LG14 (VT) between the stoplamp switch and soldered connection S250 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.

PINPOINT TEST B : ONE OR MORE STOPLAMPS INOPERATIVE

B1: DETERMINE THE FAULT CONDITION

Ignition switch in position II.

Determine the fault condition.

Operate the BRAKE and keep it depressed.

CHECK the stoplamps.

Is only the additional high-mounted stoplamp inoperative?
Yes
No
- Left-hand stoplamp is inoperative: GO to B2.
- Right-hand stoplamp is inoperative: GO to B4.
- Right-hand stoplamp and additional high-mounted stoplamp are inoperative: LOCATE and REPAIR the break in the circuit(s) between soldered connection S24 and ground connection G3 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B2: CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE LEFT-HAND STOPLAMP

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect left-hand rear lamp assembly from connector C550.
3
Ignition switch in position II.

Operate the brake and keep it depressed.

Measure the voltage between the left-hand rear lamp assembly, connector C550, pin 5, circuit 14S-LG21 (VT/BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the break in circuit(s) between soldered connection S250 and the rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B3: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF LEFT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Measure the resistance between the left-hand rear lamp assembly, connector C550, pin 3, circuit 31-LF23 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Is less than 2 Ohm measured?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the break in the circuit(s) between the rear lamp assembly and soldered connection S24 (ground connection G3) using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B4: CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE RIGHT-HAND STOPLAMP

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect right-hand rear lamp assembly from connector C549.
3
Ignition switch in position II.
4
Operate the brake and keep it depressed.

Measure the voltage between the right-hand rear lamp assembly, connector C549, pin 5, circuit 14S-LG21A (VT/BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the break in circuit(s) between soldered connection S250 and the rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B5: CHECK THE GROUND CONNECTION OF THE RIGHT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Measure the resistance between the right-hand rear lamp assembly, connector C549, pin 3, circuit 31-LF24 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Is less than 2 Ohm measured?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the break in the circuit(s) between the rear lamp assembly and soldered connection S159 (ground connection G5) using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B6: CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE ADDITIONAL HIGH-MOUNTED STOPLAMP

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect additional high-mounted stoplamp from connector C548.
3
Ignition switch in position II.

Operate the brake and keep it depressed.

Measure the voltage between the additional high-mounted stoplamp, connector C548, pin 1, circuit 14S-LG6 (VT/YE), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the break in circuit(s) between soldered connection S250 and the rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B7: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF ADDITIONAL HIGH-MOUNTED STOPLAMP

Ignition switch in position 0.

Measure the resistance between the additional high-mounted stoplamp, connector C548, pin 2, circuit 31-LG6 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Is less than 2 Ohm measured?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the additional high-mounted stoplamp. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and REPAIR the break in the circuit(s) between the additional high-mounted stoplamp and soldered connection S24 (ground connection G3) using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.

PINPOINT TEST C : STOPLAMPS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED

C1: CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect stoplamp switch from connector C62.

Ignition switch in position II.

CHECK the stoplamps.

Are the stoplamps continuously illuminated?
Yes
No
CHECK the stoplamp switch adjustment and RENEW if necessary. CHECK the operation of the system.
C2: CHECK THE ABS CONTROL MODULE
1
Ignition switch in position 0.
2
Disconnect fuse F3 (CJB).
3
Disconnect fuse F36 (CJB).
4
Disconnect fuse F25 (CJB).
5
Ignition switch in position II.

CHECK the stoplamps.

Are the stoplamps continuously illuminated?
Yes
LOCATE and REPAIR the short to battery voltage in the circuits connected to soldered connection S250 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
CHECK the ABS control module using WDS, RENEW if necessary. CHECK the operation of the system.
