Hydraulic Brake Actuation - Brake Master Cylinder Transit 2000.5 (01/2000-05/2006)
Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
CAUTION:
CAUTION:If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Disconnect the low brake fluid warning indicator switch electrical connector.
    1. Pull the tab.
    1. Depress the clips.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The brake fluid reservoir cap must not become contaminated.
    Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:It will be necessary to carry out this step on both sides in order to completely drain the brake fluid reservoir.
    Drain the brake fluid reservoir.
    1. Connect one end of a suitable piece of clear plastic pipe to the bleed nipple and place the other end into a suitable container.
    1. Loosen the bleed nipple.
    1. Depress the brake pedal until all of the brake fluid is drained from the brake fluid reservoir.
    1. Tighten the bleed nipple.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the clutch master cylinder hose to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the clutch master cylinder hose from the brake fluid reservoir.
Left-hand drive vehicles

  1. Detach the jump start point.
    • Detach the clip.

  1. Detach the battery junction box (BJB) and position it to one side.
All vehicles

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the brake tubes to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the brake tubes from the brake master cylinder.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the brake tubes to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the brake tubes from the brake master cylinder.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the brake master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir assembly.

Installation

All vehicles

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the brake master cylinder vacuum seal is correctly positioned before installation.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

All vehicles
  1. Bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to Section  206-00 Brake System - General Information.
