NOISE - "RATTLING/CREAKING" NOISE FROM REAR
OF VEHICLE AT FLOOR NEXT TO SLIDING DOOR -

1997-98 VILLAGER
ISSUE:
A "rattling/creaking" noise may come from the rear of some vehicles. The noise may be present in the floor area or the sliding door. On some vehicles, it
may be heard on the left side. This may be caused by excessive clearance between the spring shackle plate mounting bolt shoulders and the shackle plate.
ACTION:
Replace both shackle plates and upper bolts. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

Service Procedure
1.
Verify the noise is coming from the upper rear shackle plate bolts. Refer to Figure 1.
2.
Raise and support the vehicle.
Right Side Removal
1.
Remove the exhaust hanger insulators from the front of the muffler and at the resonator assembly.
2.
Carefully lower the exhaust system to a resting position.
NOTE:
DO NOT REMOVE THE EXHAUST HANGERS AT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. REMOVING THESE MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO
THE REAR HEATED EXHAUST GAS OXYGEN (HEGO) SENSOR WHEN LOWERING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM.
