–  Put the gear selector lever into position “P”
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Take out the ignition key
 
–  Defective gear change mechanism:
 
  ↓             ↑ ↑  
  ↓             ↑ ↑  
  ↓             ↑ ↑  
 Can the gear selector lever be moved from position “P” when the button is pressed?→→→→→→→→→Yes ↑  
  ↓               ↑  
 No              ↑  
  ↓               ↑  
  ↓               ↑  
  ↓               ↑  
 
–  Insert the ignition key and turn the ignition on
–  Press the brake pedal and keep it pressed
      ↑  
  ↓               ↑  
 Can the gear selector lever be moved from position “P” when the button is pressed?→→→No→→→→↑  
  ↓                  
  Yes                  
  ↓                  
 
–  It should be possible to change the gear selector lever to “R, N, D, 3, 2, or 1”
