Notes on installing air conditioner compressor
–  Once the refrigerant circuit is installed, start the engine.
–  When a new compressor is installed or oil is replaced for refrigerant (for example, after cleaning the refrigerant circuit using the methods prescribed) ⇒ Repair work on the refrigerant circuit → Workshop manual for air-conditioning with refrigerant R134a; Rep. gr.00, turn the compressor pulley ten times by hand before starting the engine.
This will prevent damage to the air conditioner compressor.
–  If possible, start engine only with refrigerant circuit charged.
  Note
t  The compressor is driven by the Poly-V belt pulley (not equipped with an electromagnetic clutch):
t  If an air conditioner compressor seizes, the overload protection separates from the air conditioner compressor shaft. There are not always deformations in the pulley to indicate that the compressor is locked. Abrasive dust accumulation around the pulley may be another indication that the compressor is locked.
t  The air conditioner compressor has an internal oil circuit to ensure that the air conditioner compressor is not damaged when the refrigerant circuit is empty. This means that about 40 to 50 cm3 of refrigerant oil remains in the air conditioner compressor.
t  Do not start the engine unless the refrigerant circuit has been properly assembled. If, for example, the refrigerant lines are not connected to the air conditioner compressor and the engine is running, the compressor may heat up so much through internal warming that it will be destroyed.
t  However, as there is no refrigerant in the circuit, the oil required for the lubrication of the air conditioner compressor is not transported to the compressor.
t  The Compressor regulation valve, air conditioning -N280- is not activated when refrigerant circuit is empty and compressor runs at idle with engine.
t  Should it be necessary to start the engine with an empty refrigerant circuit, please observe the following:
t  The refrigerant circuit must be fully assembled.
t  At least ¼ of the quantity of refrigerant oil specified for this refrigerant circuit must be in the air conditioner compressor.
t  The engine speed must not exceed 2500 rpm.
t  The engine should only run as long as absolutely necessary.
  Note
When starting the engine for the first time after filling the refrigerant circuit, take note of the following:
–  Start engine with air conditioner compressor switched off and wait until idling speed is stable.
–  Open the dash panel vents.
–  Now switch on air conditioner and allow engine to idle for at least 5 minutes.
