Removing and installing expansion valve
Removing and installing expansion valve
  Note
After switching off the air conditioner compressor, it might take a relatively long period on this vehicle before the pressure in the high-pressure side drops (the expansion valve is cold and the pressure in the low-pressure side increases rapidly after the compressor is switched off, the expansion valve is closed and the refrigerant can flow to the low-pressure side only slowly).
Detaching

–  Switch off ignition and all electrical loads, and pull out ignition key.
–  Detach refrigerant pipes from expansion valve → Chapter.
–  Remove bolts -1 and 3-.
–  Pull the expansion valve -4- out of the heat insulation -2-.
–  Seal open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine sealing plug set -VAS 6122-.

Installing
l  Note the tightening torques, assembly overview → Chapter
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
–  Replace the O-rings; for version, refer to → Electronic parts catalogue.
–  Insert the O-rings -1, 4- at the connecting pipes -2, 3- to the evaporator.
  Note
t  There are different versions of the expansion valve (identical housing but different characteristic control curve); therefore it is important to observe the correct assignment → Electronic parts catalogue.
t  Moisten the ring seals with refrigerant oil before inserting them.
t  Check the refrigerant pipes to the evaporator for contamination and damage.
t  Pay attention to correct positioning of the O-rings at the evaporator connecting pipes.
  A87-10899
t  The absence of or incorrect installation of the heat insulation -2- may lead to reduced air conditioner output (heat-induced change in set characteristic control curve).
–  Insert the expansion valve -4- at the evaporator.
–  Tighten the bolts -1, 3-.
–  Attach the refrigerant lines to the expansion valve → Chapter.
–  Evacuate and charge refrigerant circuit → Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
On completion of repair work, perform the following operations on the operating unit in the „Guided fault-finding“ function → Vehicle diagnostic tester:
–  Interrogate the event recorder and delete any entries displayed.
