Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Coolant tester -VAG 1274B-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adapter -VAG 1274/8-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adapter -VAG 1274/9-, see equivalent → Anchor

Test prerequisites
l  Engine must be warm.
Checking sequence
  WARNING
Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
–  Open cap on coolant expansion tank.
   
–  Fit the cooling tester -VAG 1274B- with the adapter -VAG 1274/8- onto the expansion tank.
–  Use the hand pump on the tester to create an overpressure of approx. 1.0 bar.
–  If this pressure is not maintained, locate and rectify leaks.

Testing pressure relief valve in filler cap
–  Fit the cooling tester -VAG 1274B- with the adapter -VAG 1274/9- onto the filler cap.
–  Build up pressure with hand pump on cooling system tester.
l  The pressure release valve should open at a pressure of 1.4 - 1.6 bar.
–  Renew filler cap if pressure relief valve does not open as described.
