  E48-0074
–  Remove the plastic bolts -1-.
–  Remove cover -2-.
  S48-0106
–  Unscrew the hexagonal bolt from the cross member -1-.
–  Remove the steering box crosspiece by pulling in -direction of the arrow-.
t  -1- Separate exhaust gas temperature sender 1 -G235- connector
t  Detach the connector -2- of the exhaust gas temperature sender 3 -G495-.
t  -3- Separate exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648- connector
  S48-0107
t  -4- Separate Lambda probe -G39- connector
  N26-10416
–  Pull connector off pressure differential sender -G505--2-.
–  Unscrew the pressure differential sender -G505- → Item.
–  Pull lines out of retainers on engine and remove heat shield from particulate filter; if necessary remove cable ties.
–  Unscrew the Lambda probe -G39- using the ring spanner -3337- → Item.
–  Unscrew exhaust temperature sender 3 -G495- using spanner -T10395/6- → Item.
  N26-10525
–  Separate the air temperature line of the particle filter and loosen the clip -1- between the particle filter and the exhaust gas turbocharger.
–  Unscrew bolt -4-.
  A26-10935
–  Unscrew the securing bolts -arrows- and remove the engine soundproofing..
  E10-0086
–  Open bracket -B- of hydraulic lines -A-.
  N26-10318
–  Remove bolts -arrows- and heat shield for drive shaft, if fitted.
  N17-10184
–  Unscrew the bolts -1- and -2- of the pendulum support and remove them.
–  Place the Engine and gearbox jack -VAG 1383A- under the engine assembly.
–  Unscrew the bolts of the engine assembly one after another and replace them with bolts of the supporting tool -T10096-. → Running gear, axles and steering; Rep. gr.40.
  E34-0314
–  Unscrew the right and left link rod from the stabiliser bar -arrow-.
–  Carefully lower the engine assembly using the Engine and gearbox jack -VAG 1383A-, the steering box remains connected to the engine assembly.
The hydraulic steering circuit does not need to be opened for this → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.
  A10-1141
–  Lower max. 10 cm -arrow- on the right hand side.
–  Lower max. 7 cm on the left hand side otherwise excessive stretching is caused to the hydraulic lines -arrow-.
  Note
Secure the engine assembly together with the steering box to the bottom vehicle platform using the support tool -T10038- for the purpose of discharging the hydraulic lines.
–  Unscrew the exhaust temperature sensor 4 -G648- from the exhaust pipe to the particulate filter → Item.
  N26-10346
–  First unscrew the screws -1- and then the nuts -2- of the bottom support of the particulate filter.
–  Remove particulate filter bracket.
  Note
The mounting on the front section of the exhaust pipe with particle filter / catalytic converter should not be bent by more than 10° otherwise there is a risk of damage.
  N26-10535
If the particle filter should be re-used, the separating element on the primary exhaust pipe must always be protected using a transport lock -T10404--arrow-.
  N26-10517
–  Pull particulate filter from mountings -arrows-.
  A26-10956
–  Slacken the fastening nuts -arrows- of the clamping sleeve and push the sleeve for removing the main exhaust pipe to the rear.
–  Remove the front exhaust section from the tunnel bridge .
  Note
Be careful not to damage the electrical connections and cable routing.
–  Carefully separate the front exhaust pipe with particle filter and the pressure differential sender -G505- between the floor tunnel and the front engine assembly.
  V26-0733
–  Remove particulate filter by turning 180° around its own axis.
Fitting
Specified torques → Chapter.
Tightening torque of the subframe → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.
  Note
t  Before installing subframe with steering box ensure that seal on steering box contacts the assembly plate without kinks. The footrest area opening must be properly sealed, otherwise water may enter and/or noise may be transmitted.
t  Replace the seals, self-locking nuts and particulate filter clamps.
t  When fitting, attach all cable ties back to the same location.
  A26-10712
Check fitting position of seal -arrow- (steering donut).
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
–  Renew gasket/seals → Item.
  N26-10391
Observe the sequence when installing the particle filter:
  A26-10695
