Removing and installing turbocharger Exhaust gas turbocharger : Removing → Anchor Exhaust gas turbocharger : Fitting → Anchor Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Base -T20174-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Hose clips -3094- t  Torque wrench (5... 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor   Caution If a mechanical fault is detected on the turbocharger, for example, a broken blade wheel, changing the turbocharger is not enough. To avoid subsequent damage, carry out the following operations: t  Ensure that the air filter housing, the cartridge and the vacuum hoses are not dirty. t  Ensure that there are no foreign bodies in the supercharger air circuit and the intercooler. If foreign bodies are found in the supercharger air system, the supercharger air circuit should be cleaned and, if necessary, the intercooler replaced.

Removing –  Disengage coolant hose -1- at engine cover panel. –  Pull out the dipstick.-2-. –  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove engine cover panel. –  Remove catalytic converter → Chapter.

–  Pull off cover -1- for air duct (release retaining clips -arrows- on the sides).

–  Remove the lower air line, release the retaining clips -arrows- for this purpose. –  Detach bottom section of air duct with air hose.

–  Detach air hose -1- from turbocharger (release hose clip).   Note -Items 2 and 3- can be disregarded.

–  Unplug electrical connector -1- on charge pressure control solenoid valve -N75- and -2- on turbocharger air recirculation valve -N249-.

–  Unscrew bolts -2- and detach retaining bracket -1-. –  Unplug the electrical connector -3- at charge pressure sender -G31-. –  Release retainers -arrows- and detach air pipe first from throttle valve module -J338- and then from turbocharger. –  Move hoses on air pipe clear.

–  Remove bolt -4- and detach crankcase breather hose from turbocharger -arrow-.   Note Disregard -items 1, 2, 3-.

–  Clamp off coolant hoses with hose clamps -3094- as shown in illustration. –  Remove bolts -1, 3, 4, 5-. –  Disconnect coolant lines from turbocharger and move clear to one side.   Note Ignore -item 2-.

–  Remove banjo bolt -1- and bolts -2, 3, 4-, detach oil supply pipe and retaining plate from turbocharger.   Note Do not bend the oil supply line out of shape.

–  Remove bolts -2- for oil return pipe (top).   Note Ignore -item 1-.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove heat shield.

–  Remove nuts -arrows- and detach bracket -1- and turbocharger with exhaust manifold.   Note Seal off open pipes/lines and connections on turbocharger with clean plugs or protective caps to prevent dirt from entering. Installing Install in reverse order to dismantling, noting the following:

Exhaust gas turbocharger - tightening torque and sequence   Note Renew nuts. –  Tighten the nuts in 2 stages in the sequence indicated:

stage:	Nuts	Specified torque .
1.	-1 … 9-	Screw in by hand until it stops.
2.	-1 … 9-	16 Nm

t  Always replace seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts. t  Fill the turbocharger at the coupling of the oil supply pipe with engine oil. t  After installing turbocharger, run engine for about 1 minute at idling speed to ensure that oil is supplied to turbocharger. t  Secure the hose connections with original clamps. Assembly of hose connections with couplings → Chapter. –  Tighten securing bolts -arrows-to a torque of 10 Nm. –  Check oil level → Chapter. –  Check coolant level → Anchor.
