Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Ignition tester -V.A.G 1767- or -V.A.G 1367- with trigger pincers -V.A.G 1367/8-
Test conditions
l  No faults recorded in the memory → Chapter, Fault memory: consulting
l  Engine oil temperature, 80 °C minimum
l  Correct ignition timing, verification → Chapter
Checking process
   
–  Connect the ignition tester -V.A.G 1767- or the ignition tester -V.A.G 1367- with trigger pincers -V.A.G 1367/8-.
–  Start the engine and allow it to run at idle.
–  Adjust the ignition tester to 3000 rpm.
–  Increase the engine speed to a little above 3000 rpm until the ignition timing is indicated (advance value).
   Specification: 30°…42° before TDC
