Removing and installing subframe Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-

t  Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- Removing –  Remove noise insulation.

–  Separate bolted connection for wheel bearing housing/lower swivel joint -arrow-.

–  Remove pendulum support from subframe -arrow-.

–  Unbolt steering box from subframe -arrows- and secure e.g. with wire.

–  Unbolt exhaust pipe from front of subframe -arrows-. –  Position engine/gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- under subframe.

–  Remove subframe bolts -arrows-. –  Lower subframe with engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-. Installing Install in reverse order. Before inserting bolts for subframe, position steering box on subframe and insert bolts.

Specified torques

Bolt	Specified torque
Swivel joint to wheel bearing housing	55 Nm
Subframe to body t  Use new bolts	150 Nm + 90° further
Steering box to subframe t  Use new bolts	60 Nm
Pendulum support to subframe t  Use new nuts and bolts	100 Nm
Front exhaust pipe to subframe	→ Rep. Gr.26
