Removing
Removing
–  Remove V-ribbed belt → Chapter.
–  Remove the front right wheelhouse liner → Body Work; Rep. Gr.66.
–  Remove belt pulley.
–  Remove middle and bottom part of toothed belt guard.

–  Remove charge-air pipe at the top -1- with connecting hose -2--arrows-.
  WARNING
Fuel line is under pressure. Place cleaning cloths around the connection point before detaching hose connections. Reduce pressure by carefully removing the hose.
  S10-0145
–  Disconnect the fuel feed line -1- and the fuel return-flow line -2-.
–  Remove expansion reservoir and place down to the front with coolant hoses connected.
  S13-0261
–  Install supporting device -MP 9-200- and support the engine with spindle -A- in fitting position. Allow spindle -B- to hang loosely.
  S13-0259
–  Remove engine support -arrows-.
  Note
Releasing the pendulum support brings the engine forwards and the engine mounting can be removed.
–  Unbolt the pendulum support from the gearbox.
–  Remove timing belt guard - top part.
–  Lower engine approx. 35 mm and release bottom screw of the engine mounting.
–  Raise the engine approx. 45 mm relative to its normal position and release the top screws of the engine mounting.
  S13-0260
–  Swivel out the engine mounting towards the top -arrow A- and subsequently pull up at the rear -arrow B-.
–  Lower engine again into normal position.
–  Position crankshaft on TDC cylinder 1.
  Note
  S13-0262
Rotate crankshaft until the marking on the top of the toothed belt sprocket and the arrow on the rear toothed belt guard are positioned opposite the lugs on the hub of the impulse rotor -arrows A-.
–  Lock hub with locking pin -MP 1-301- or -3359-.
Insert locking pin through the left slot into the hole at the cylinder head.
–  Secure the timing belt sprocket crankshaft with the crankshaft arrester -T10050-.
Insert the crankshaft arrester from the front side of the timing belt gear into the gearing.
To facilitate this step, it is recommended to colour the TDC marking on the crankshaft timing belt sprocket and on the crankshaft arrester -T10050- with white paint -arrows B-.
  Note
t  The markings on the timing belt gear and on the crankshaft arrester must be in line with each other -arrows B-. Pin of crankshaft arrester must engage at the same time in the hole of the sealing flange -arrow C-.
t  The crankshaft arrester - T10050- can only be fitted onto the serration of the toothed belt from the front side.
t  Crankshaft arrester - T10050- must not be used as a counterholder when releasing or tightening the bolts for the toothed belt gear - crankshaft!
–  Mark the direction of rotation of the timing belt with chalk or a felt-tip pen.
  S13-0263
–  Loosen bolts -arrows- of the camshaft timing gear.
For vehicles ► 04.01
  S13-0448
–  Insert wrench fully into the hexagon socket bolt and press in anti-clockwise direction onto the tensioning pulley -arrow- long enough until it is possible to secure the toothed belt tensioning device with the locking plate -T10008-.
–  Slacken nut of tensioning pulley.
  S15-0190
–  Unscrew bolts -1- of toothed belt tensioning device and remove the tensioning device.
–  Remove guide pulley → Item
For vehicles 05.01 ►
  S15-0191
–  Counterhold eccentric of tensioning pulley with two-hole nut turner (e.g. -T10020- or with Allen key) and loosen the fixing nut -1-. After this, release the tensioning pulley by turning the eccentric anti-clockwise, until spring tension releases. Secure the loose tensioning pulley by tightening the fixing nut by hand.
–  Remove guide pulley → Item
For all vehicles
–  First of all take toothed belt off toothed belt sprocket of crankshaft and then from the other belt pulleys.
