Tightening torques > < Securing the engine to the assembly stand

Install
Install
Installation is performed in a similar way in the reverse order. Pay attention to the following points:
  Note
t  When performing installation work replace the self-locking nuts.
t  Replace screws which have been tightened to a torquing angle as well as gasket rings and seals.
t  All cable straps should be fastened again in the same place when installing.
t  Secure all hose connections with corresponding hose clips.
t  If the battery earth strap is disconnected and connected, carry out additional operations → Electrical System; Rep. gr.27.
t  Clean the drive shaft serration and hub serration on used clutch discs, remove corrosion. Apply a very thin layer of grease -G 000 100- onto the serration. Subsequently move the clutch disc up and down on the drive shaft until the hub fits smoothly on the shaft. Remove all excess grease.
–  Check whether dowel sleeves for centering have been inserted in the cylinder block, if necessary insert.
   
–  Insert intermediate plate on sealing flange and push onto the dowel sleeves -arrows-.
Vehicles fitted with a manual gearbox
–  Check the centering of the clutch driver disc.
–  Inspect clutch release bearing for wear, replace if necessary.
–  Slightly grease the clutch release bearing, guide bushing for clutch release bearing and serration of the drive shaft with grease -G 000 100-.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox
–  Check attachment of the torque converter.
–  Install or adjust selector lever control cable to the gearbox → Automatic Gearbox; Rep. gr.37.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Assemble engine with gearbox → Gearbox; Rep. gr.34 or → Automatic Gearbox; Rep. gr.37.

–  Secure unit in the engine and gearbox mount -arrows- and tighten the screws to the recommended tightening torque → Chapter.
Vehicles fitted with a manual gearbox
–  Install master cylinder → Gearbox; Rep. gr.30.
–  Install the shift cables of the shift mechanism → Gearbox; Rep. gr.34.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Install the lock carrier with component parts → Body Work; Rep. gr.50.
–  Electrical connections and proper routing → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
Vehicles with air conditioning
  Note
To avoid damaging the condenser, wiring and coolant hoses, make sure the lines and hoses are not excessively expanded, buckled or bent.
–  Install AC compressor → Heating, Air Conditioning; Rep. gr.87.
–  Install the V-ribbed belt → Chapter.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Install the right and left drive shaft on the gearbox → Chassis; Rep. gr.40.
–  Install pendulum support and tighten the screws to the prescribed tightening torque → Chapter.
–  Install pre-exhaust pipe:
t  Engines with identification characters AUA, AUB, BBY, BBZ → Chapter
t  Engine with identification characters BKY → Chapter
t  Engine with identification characters BUD → Chapter
–  Install front bumper → Body Work; Rep. gr.63.
–  Top up coolant → Chapter.
For engines with identification characters AUA, AUB, BBY, BBZ, BKY
–  Install engine cover with air filter.
For engine with identification characters BUD
–  Install intake hose.
For engines with identification characters BKY up to 05/2005, AUA, AUB, BBY, BBZ
–  Adapt the engine control unit to the EGR valve → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Adapt the engine control unit to the throttle valve control unit → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  Make a test drive and interrogate the fault memory → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
