| Removing and installing parts of the exhaust gas recirculation system |
Note| t | The actuation of the exhaust gas recirculation system is performed by the diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- for the EGR valve -N18- with EGR potentiometer -G212- and EGR control motor -V338-. |
| t | The mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve with cone-shaped valve plunger makes it possible to achieve different opening cross-sections at different valve strokes. |
| t | The exhaust gas recirculation switches off at idling speed after approx. two minutes. |
| t | When taking longer measurements, restart the engine or increase engine speed briefly to more than 1500 rpm. After this repeat the measurement. |
| t | Secure all hose connections with corresponding hose clips. |
| t | Replace self-locking nuts. |

| q | before installing, check sealing surfaces at intake manifold for dirt and clean as required |
Note| t | After replacing, adapt new part as follows: |
| t | Switch ignition on and off; then wait 1 minute for the afterrun of the control units, |
| t | Start engine and run in idle for at least 1 minute, |
| t | Interrogate fault memory → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051, no fault should be stored in the fault memory. |
| t | If a fault occurs, erase the fault memory and repeat the entire work procedure. |
