Ball Joint: Testing and Inspection
UPPER BALL JOINT
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Check that front wheels are in straight ahead position and depress and hold brake pedal.
3.
Move wheel up and down and check that upper ball joint play does not exceed .091 inch (2.3mm).
LOWER BALL JOINT
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Check that front wheels are in straight ahead position and depress and hold brake pedal to eliminate wheel bearing play.
3.
Move lower control arm up and down and check that lower ball joint play does not exceed .091 inch (2.3mm) on Pickup models, or 0 inch (0mm)
on Van models.
