Remove
Remove rear wheel.
Release handbrake lever. Detach gaiter of handbrake lever.
Release handbrake cable by turning the adjusting nut backwards.
In vehicles with drum brake: Remove drum brake - see operation
"Brake Drum, Remove and Install" in group "H". To prevent the brake
anchor plate dropping a long way and causing damage to the brake
line, tie brake line to rear spring with cable ties in the area of
the wheel brake cylinder.
In vehicles with disc brake: Press actuation lever on brake
calliper downwards with a screwdriver and unhook handbrake cable.
Detach retaining clamp and pull handbrake cable out of
mounting.
Detach both brake fastening bolts for the brake adapter from the
brake adapter plate and pull brake calliper off brake disc with
brake adapter. Attach brake calliper and brake adapter to rear
spring with suitable wire.
Note: If the brake
calliper cannot be pulled away from the brake disc with brake
adapter and brake pads fitted e.g. because the brake disc is worn,
the brake pads on the rear wheel brake must be removed - see
operation "Brake Pads of the Rear Wheel Brake, Remove and Install"
in group "H".
Remove brake disc of rear wheel brake - see operation ""Brake
Pads of the Rear Wheel Brake, Remove and Install" in group "H".
Attach brake adapter plate (3) to rear spring with cable ties.
For vehicles with ABS: Disconnect wiring harness plug (1) from
wheel sensor.
Unscrew fastening nuts (arrows) from wheel bearing unit and
remove wheel bearing unit with cover plate (2 - on vehicles with
disc brake).
