Thermostat Housing, Remove and Install (X 14 XE, Z
14 XE, X 16 XEL, Z 16 XE)
 Remove
|
Remove engine compartment cover.
Open coolant drain bolt – collect escaping coolant.
Detach coolant hoses (1) and (2) from thermostat housing.
Disconnect wiring harness plug from coolant temperature
sensor.
Detach thermostat housing cover (3) from thermostat housing.
Detach thermostat housing (4) from cylinder head.
 Clean
Clean sealing surfaces and remove gasket residues.

Install
Transfer coolant temperature sensor when replacing thermostat
housing.
Attach coolant temperature sensor to thermostat housing –
tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
Attach thermostat housing to cylinder head with new seal ring
– tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
Attach thermostat housing cover to thermostat housing with
thermostat and new seal ring – tightening torque 8 Nm / 6
lbf. ft.
Connect wiring harness plug to coolant temperature sensor.
Attach coolant hoses.
Install engine cover.
Inspect
Charge cooling system – see operations "Cooling System,
Charge and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for Leaks".
