Con-rod Bearing Play, Check (Determine Bearing Play with Plastigage) > < Crank drive, cylinder block

Con-rod Bearing, Replace

  Remove

Remove oil pan – see operation "Oil Pan, Remove and Install".

In version with balancer shaft unit: remove balancer shaft unit - see operation "Removing and installing balancer shaft unit".

Caution

Mark order of con-rod bearing caps (1) – bead (2) of con-rod bearing caps points to transmission side.

The broken surfaces of the con-rods and con-rod bearing caps constitute an individual fit and must therefore not be mixed up or damaged.

To prevent damage – do not lay con-rods and con-rod bearing caps on broken surfaces.

  Remove

Remove con-rod bearing cap from con-rod.

Press con-rod bearing out of con-rod and con-rod bearing cap.

  Clean

Clean con-rod bearing caps and con-rod bearing journals.

  Install

Insert con-rod bearing shells with engine oil in con-rod and con-rod bearing caps.

Note order of con-rod bearing caps (1) – note marks.

Install con-rod bearing caps with new bolts on con-rod – con-rod bearing cap bead (2) points to transmission side.

Torque-angle method

Con-rod bearing caps with new bolts to con-rod – 35 Nm / 26 lbf. ft. + 45° + 15°.

  Install

In version with balancer shaft unit: install balancer shaft unit - see operation "Removing and installing balancer shaft unit".

Install oil pan – see operation "Oil Pan, Remove and Install".
