Injectors, Remove and Install (X 18 XE1, Z 18 XE,
Z 18 XEL)
 Remove
|
Remove engine cover (3).
Disconnect wiring harness plug (1) from hot film mass air flow
meter.
Detach air intake manifold (2) together with hot film mass air
flow meter from upper part of air cleaner housing and from throttle
body.
Detach engine vent hose (4) from cylinder head cover and
throttle body.
Detach or disconnect all wiring connections which are connected
to the plug strip (5) and place out of way – note cable
routing.
For Z 18 XE and Z 18 XEL: Detach fastening bolt from engine
transport shackle.
Detach plug strip from injectors with wiring trough and place to
one side.

Caution
Fuel leak – observe safety regulations and national
legislation. Reduce fuel with Pressure Tester KM-J-34730-91 via
testing port – collect escaping fuel in suitable
container.
Remove
|
Detach fuel feed line (1) from fuel distributor pipe (2).
Unscrew fastening bolts (arrows) for fuel distributor pipe.
Remove fuel distributor pipe with injectors from intake
manifold.
Detach spring clip (3) for relevant injector and remove
injector.

Install
Coat new seal rings (4) for injector with clean engine oil.
Insert injector in fuel distributor pipe and fasten with spring
clip – ensure installation position is correct.
Insert fuel distributor tube with injectors in intake manifold
and fasten – tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.
Attach fuel feed lines to fuel distributor pipe –
tightening torque 15 Nm / 11 lbf. ft.
Connect plug strip to injectors – plug strip must engage
audibly – ensure correct seating.
For Z 18 XE and Z 18 XEL: Install fastening bolt for plug strip
to engine transport shackle.
Attach or connect all wiring connections which are connected to
the plug strip or cable bunch and ensure cable routing is
correct.
Attach engine vent hoses.
Attach air intake manifold together with hot film mass air flow
meter to upper part of air cleaner housing and to throttle
body.
Attach wiring harness plug to hot film mass air flow meter.
Install engine cover.
