Intake Manifold Flange, Remove and Install (X 14
XE, Z 14 XE, X 16 XEL, Z 16 XE)
 Remove
|
Remove intake manifold – see operation "Intake Manifold,
Remove and Install (X 14 XE, X 16 XEL)" or "Intake Manifold, Remove
and Install (Z 14 XE, Z 16 XE)".
Reduce fuel pressure with Pressure Tester KM-J-34730-91 via
testing port – collect escaping fuel in suitable container
– observe safety regulations and national legislation.
For X 14 XE, X 16 XEL: Detach fuel line (1) from fuel
distributor pipe.
For Z 14 XE and Z 16 XE: Detach fuel feed line from fuel
distributor pipe.
Open coolant drain bolt – collect escaping coolant.
Detach coolant hose (2) from intake manifold flange. Detach
coolant flange (3) from cylinder head and lay to rear – note
different bolt lengths.
Detach coolant pipe (4) from transmission housing –
thereby place cable bundle out of way. Carefully push coolant pipe
to rear.

Detach intake manifold flange (1) from cylinder head and
remove.
When replacing intake manifold flange – transfer attaching
parts.
 Clean
Clean sealing surfaces and remove gasket residues.
Install
Attach intake manifold flange to cylinder head with new gasket
and new fastening nuts – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf.
ft.
Attach coolant flange to cylinder head – tightening torque
20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.
Attach coolant pipe to transmission casing – tightening
torque 55 Nm / 41 lbf. ft. Secure cable bundle to coolant pipe.
Attach coolant hose to intake manifold flange.
Attach fuel lines to fuel distributor pipe – tightening
torque 15 Nm / 11 lbf. ft.

Install intake manifold – see operation "Intake Manifold,
Remove and Install (X 14 XE, X 16 XEL)" or "Intake Manifold, Remove
and Install (Z 14 XE, Z 16 XE)".
Close coolant drain bolt.
Inspect
Charge cooling system – see operations "Cooling System,
Charge and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for Leaks".
