Oil Pan, Remove and Install

  Remove

For X 18 XE1: Disconnect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensor (2) and place cable out of way.

For Z 14 XE, Z 16 XE, Z 16 YNG, Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL: Disconnect wiring harness plug for mixture regulation oxygen sensor and set aside.

For version with dynamic oil level control: Disconnect wiring harness plug for dynamic oil level control (1) and place cable out of way.

Detach front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold and rear muffler together with catalytic converter and centre muffler.

Open oil drain bolt – place collecting basin underneath.

Detach oil pan from cylinder block, oil pump and from transmission housing.

  Clean

Clean sealing surfaces and remove gasket residues.

  Install

Apply a bead of silicone sealing compound (grey) to joints (arrows) of oil pump and rear crankshaft bearing cap.

For X 14 XE and X 16 XEL: Insert new gasket (1) in oil pan.

Caution

Sealing surfaces must be free from grease and dirt.

For Z 14 XE, Z 16 XE, Z 16 YNG, X 18 XE1, Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL: Apply a bead of silicone sealing compound to oil pan, approx. 2.5 mm (dimension I) all round and approx. 3.5 mm (dimension II) where it meets the rear crankshaft bearing cover and install immediately while wet.

Attach oil pan to oil pump, cylinder block and transmission.

Caution

Installation sequence:

1. Moderately tighten all bolts.

2. Tighten bolts on cylinder block and oil pump – tightening torque 10 Nm / 7.5 lbf. ft. 1)

3. Tighten bolts on transmission housing – 40 Nm / 29.5 lbf. ft.

  Install

Attach oil drain bolt to oil pan with new seal ring.

For version with hexagonal bolt (metal seal ring) – tightening torque 45 Nm / 33 lbf. ft.

For version with inner Torx bolt (rubber seal ring) – tightening torque 14 Nm / 10 lbf. ft.

Attach front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold and rear muffler together with catalytic converter and centre muffler.

For version with dynamic oil level control: Connect wiring harness plug for dynamic oil level control – ensure correct cable routing.

For X 18 XE1: Connect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensor – ensure correct cable routing.

For Z 14 XE, Z 16 XE, Z 16 YNG, Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL: Connect wiring harness plug for mixture regulation oxygen sensor – note correct routing of cables.

Fill engine oil up to "MAX" at dipstick.

1 ) Clean thread and install bolts with screw locking compound (red). The installation time including torque checking is max. 10 min.
