Multec-S, X 14 XE and X 16 XEL  

The Multec-S engine management system has been modified relative to the familiar Multec (F). The previously used engine control unit has been replaced by a hybrid engine control unit - see section 2.12.  

The conventional DIS ignition module has been replaced by an ignition module with individual ignition coils and integrated spark plug connectors - see section 2.14.  

The following table shows the differences between the Multec (F, for flash programming) in the Astra-F and the Multec-S in the Astra-G.  

Astra-F (Model Year 96)  

Astra-G (Model Year 98 1/2)

Engine control unit located in footwell (co-driver's side)

• Service  

The Multec-S engine control units (X 14 XE, X 16 XEL) cannot be flash-programmed.
