Idle Air Control Regulator, X 20 XEV

The purpose of the idle air control regulator (1) is to create a balance between the supplied engine torque and the engine load and thus to ensure a constant engine speed.

The engine load at idle speed is made up of various load factors, such as the frictional coefficients generated in the engine by the crank and valve drives and the auxiliary aggregates. These internal frictional coefficients are joined by external loads such as the air conditioning.

The idle air control regulator is flanged to the throttle body. The wall of the throttle body casing has a bypass duct for the idle intake air metered by the idle air control regulator.

The idle air control regulator varies the air throughput according to the signal transmitted by the engine management when the throttle valve is closed.
