Power Steering Hydraulic Lines, Remove and Install
(Vehicles with LHD, EHPS Gen. I, TRW)
Remove
If present: Remove lower engine compartment cover – for
vehicles with diesel engine: see operation "Lower Engine
Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".
For vehicles with diesel engine: remove heat shield from
electro-hydraulic supply unit.
Caution
Position collecting pan underneath unit to catch escaping
hydraulic fluid.
Remove
Detach pressure line (2) and return line (1) from
electro-hydraulic supply unit.
Support transmission and remove engine damping block bracket at
rear from transmission and engine damping block.
Detach return line and pressure line from steering gear, remove
from retainers and clips.

Note: New seal rings
must always be used when installing hydraulic lines.
Install
Attach return line to steering gear – tightening torque 30
Nm / 22 lbf. ft. Route return line to electro-hydraulic supply unit
and attach with new retaining strap and KM-J-22610.
Attach rear engine damping block bracket to transmission –
tightening torque 80 Nm / 59 lbf. ft. Attach rear engine damping
block bracket to engine damping block – tightening torque 55
Nm / 40.5 lbf. ft.
Insert pressure line and attach to electro-hydraulic supply unit
and steering gear – tightening torque 30 Nm / 22 lbf. ft.
If removed: attach heat shield to electro-hydraulic supply unit
– tightening torque 2 Nm / 1.5 lbf. ft.
If present: Install lower engine compartment cover – for
vehicles with diesel engine: see operation "Lower Engine
Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".
