Work Order Description

Nominal Value
T001

Check: Short to Voltage of Signal Circuit
  • Ignition OFF
  • Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
    M3 Motor - Radiator Fan
    and
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    (Wiring Harness Connector (XC1) )
    and
    B65 Sensor - Knock Control
  • Ignition ON
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 52 (XC1)
    &
    Ground

less than 0.3 V
Voltage Measurement Current Value: V
Yes: No:
T002

Check: Short to Voltage of Signal Circuit
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 20 (XC1)
    &
    Ground

less than 0.3 V
Voltage Measurement Current Value: V
Yes: No:
T003

Check: Interruption of Signal Circuit
  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 20 (XC1)
    &
    B65 Sensor - Knock Control
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2

Note:

Wiring colours: BK=Black, BN=Brown, BU=Blue, GD=Gold, GN=Green, GY=Grey, OG=Orange, PK=Pink, RD=Red, SR=Silver, TQ=Turquoise, VT=Violet, WH=White, YE=Yellow,
L=Light, D=Dark

less than 5 Ohm

Cause Of Fault
E001 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    B65 Sensor - Knock Control
    or
    A84 Control Unit - Engine

Note:

The replacement of the components must be done in the listed order.

The system must be checked for proper operation after every replacement.

Important:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.
E002 Result: Short to Ground
  • Short circuit to ground between:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 20 (XC1)
    &
    B65 Sensor - Knock Control
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 2
E003 Result: Short to Ground
  • Short circuit to ground between:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 52 (XC1)
    &
    B65 Sensor - Knock Control
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 1
E004 Result: Short Circuit in Wiring Harness
  • Short circuit in wiring harness between:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 52 (XC1)
