Glass Panel, Replace

Up to Veh. Ident. No. 32 791 967; 35 273 427

Remove

Wind glass panel to closed position. Push sun screen towards rear. Unscrew cover from both slide block guides in passenger compartment.

         27  Lock washer

         28  Self-locking screw

To enable easy mounting of washers (position 27), the slide block guides (position 26) have special fixing bolts.

Lift glass panel from roof cut-out.

Bring panel downwards to half-open position.

Push sun screen towards rear.

Unscrew panel cover and pull out forwards.

         (4 Phillips screws in front, clamped at rear)

Unclip cover at panel/slide block guides.

Unscrew panel from both slide block guides (6 screws).

Remove panel from roof cut-out.

Note:

With manual crank drive, crank rests at "Open" after 10 turns. By pressing button and turning crank two additional turns, panel is brought to final position.

Install

Before installation, check distance between screw flanges for panel attachment.

         Distance: 772 mm/30.39 in.

Align flange by hand if necessary.

         1  Screw flange

         2  Welding nut (up to MY '90)

         3  Protective sheeting (remove after adjusting operations)

Note:

On vehicles as of Ident. No. 32 791 968; 35 273 428 3 fastening points on each side

Insert glass panel with controlled gap seal into roof cut-out.

Note:    To avoid mistakes when inserting, note that safety glass sign is positioned at rear of roof cut-out and wide chequered edging at front of roof cut-out.

              1  Wide chequered edging at front

              2  Safety glass sign at rear

Loosely bolt glass panel into place.

Use new self-locking bolts.

Crank glass panel to closed position and adjust height of glass sliding/sun roof.

      Distance from panel edge to edges of roof cut-out:

              Front   = -1 mm/0.039 in.

              Rear    = +1 mm/0.039 in.

       2  Attachment bolt

      27  Lock washer

      28  Self-locking bolt

Tighten bolts to 15 Nm/11.06 lbf. ft.

Insert panel in roof cut-out.

Loosely bolt panel to slide block guides, using self-locking bolts (6 bolts each).

Bring panel to closed position.

Adjust height of panel (slide block screws).

Height of panel relative to edge of roof: front: -1 mm/-0.039 in.;

rear: +1 mm/-0.039 in.

Tighten bolts to 15 Nm/11.06 lbf. ft.

Install attaching parts.

Note:

With manual crank drive, crank rests at "Open" after 10 turns. By pressing button and turning crank two additional turns, panel is brought to final position.
