·   Ignition ON

     Slowly turn rear left/rear right wheel by hand

 

 

 

 

approx. 5 km/h (3 MPH) or

TECH 1 display approx. the same as speedometer display

 

 

 

 

·   Distance from wheel speed sensor to ring gear (pulse pick-up) too large*

·   Nominal value:         0.2 to 1.5 mm/

                                      0.008 to 0.06 in.

·   Wheel speed sensor (or bracket) loose*

·   Ring gear (pulse pick-up) damaged*

     Nominal value:         29 teeth

·   Wheel speed sensors mixed up

 

 

* Cannot be checked on wheel speed sensors which are integrated into the wheel bearing unit.

 

Only applies to ABS-2E, RL wheel speed sensor:

 

 

 

 

·   Ignition OFF

     Remove plug from control unit K 50

     Connect ohmmeter between plug K 50/Ter. 8 and Ter. 21, raise vehicle and move cable by hand to and fro, especially in area of wheel housing

     Check that the measured value displayed stays constant

·   Plug connection X 78 of wheel speed sensor P 19 defective

·   Loose contact between plug connection X 78 and wheel speed sensor P 19

·   Lead interruption from control unit K 50/Ter. 8 or Ter. 9 to plug connection X 78 of wheel speed sensor P 19

 

 

 

·   Connect ohmmeter between plug K 50/ Ter. 8 and Ter. 10

 

 > 100 kW

(over entire lifespan)

 

·   Short circuit to ground

     Transfer resistance to ground at plug connection X 78

 

 

·   Set voltmeter to alternating current Connect voltmeter to control unit plug K 50/Ter. 8 and Ter. 9

     Turn wheel at speed of 1 turn per second
