Contact Unit, Remove and Install

Caution

Disconnect battery and wait 1 minute until the capacitor has discharged.

  Remove

Driver's side airbag unit – see operation "Airbag Unit – Driver's Side, Remove and Install", steering wheel – see operation, "Steering Wheel, Remove and Install (Vehicles with Airbag) in group "M".

Signal switch panelling (1, 2, 3) – see operation "Signal Switch Panelling, Remove and Install".

Remove contact unit wiring harness plug (1), carefully release the four contact unit clips (5) and remove contact unit.

Caution

Do not release locking device and steering lock until re-installation!

If contact unit is removed! Establish centre position – only necessary if locking device (3) and/or steering lock were accidentally released.

Pressing detent, carefully turn inner part of contact unit anti-clockwise until required force noticeably increases. Then turn back approx. 2.5 turns, and then turn further in the same direction until arrows (4) align.

  Install

When installing a new contact unit, remove transport lock (2). New contact units are always set in the centre position.

Position contact unit with the guide pins and engage all the clips in parallel and uniformly, wiring harness plug for contact unit.

Caution

Ensure correct seating of clips (5). If damaged, the contact unit must be replaced.

  Install

Signal switch panelling, steering wheel, driver's side airbag unit, battery.
