Doors - Cannot be opened from inside or outside

Models:

Omega-B 94-98

Engines:

All

Option:

Group:

C - Equipment /Windows /Seats

Troublecode:

Non

Complaint:

No /Poor Function

The doors cannot be opened from inside or outside. An intermittent fault, probably not reproducible.

Cause:

1.    Bad outer door handle kinematic.Too small clearance after unlatch the door.

2.    Adjustment failure of the adjustment nut (Linkage door outer handle)

3.    Door latch is hard to operate.

Production Solution:

As of VIN W1022868 the door lock detach linkage is bent 15° instead of 30°.

As of MY 98 the upper lever (with bracket adjustment nut) is improved with zinc.

Fabrication tolerances are reduced to avoid the tearing of plastic housing.

As of MY 98,5 the rubber stop on the door handle is replaced.

Special part:

No

Remedy:

Remedy for cause 1.

-      Remove door handle and cut off the moulded stopper on the plastic seal between door handle and door, located on the detach linkage side (reduce down to the material thickness of the seal), see arrow, position A, hatched area.

Additionally re-bend the detach linkage to 15°.

Reduce clearance between detach linkage and latch mechanism (slotted nut) from 1 mm to 0 mm, see illustration.

Remedy for cause 2:

Checking procedure by opened door:

a)    Move the outer door handle up to 3 mm, the locking button shouldn't stick.

If sticking is evident, the adjusting nut is too low. (The clearance of 2 mm is required, to compensate tolerances due to wear out and heat expansion.)

b)    Close the latch trap by hand, see illustration.

Pull up the locking button (open position). Turn the adjusting nut down, until the locking button can’t be moved.

When the door outer handle is moved up, the latch trap should open before the outer door handle reaches the end position.

To the end position should be a rest of at least 5 mm.

If the latch trap doesn't open or opened too late, the adjusting nut is too high, see remedy for cause 3.

Remedy for cause 3:

Hard operation of the door latch:

a)    The latch trap should be easily moved by hand and go automatically backwards.

The plastic cover shouldn't stay away lateral otherwise replace the door latch.

b)    Push down the tilt lever (1) by hand (arrow). The lever should go automatically backwards. In case of hard operation clean and grease the lever. If the lever sticks, replace the door latch.

c)    The lever to the lock cylinder (2) is bended.

Rework the stay away sheet metal edge on the door inside and re-bend the lever on the latch.
