Con-rod Bearing, Replace

  Remove

Remove oil baffle plate – see operation "Oil Baffle Plate, Remove and Install".

Mark order of con-rod bearing caps – bead (1) of con-rod bearing caps points to transmission side. Remove con-rod bearing cap from con-rod.

Caution

The broken surfaces of the con-rods and con-rod bearing form an individual fit and must not therefore be mixed up or damaged. In order to avoid damage – do not place con-rods and con-rod bearing caps on the broken surfaces.

  Remove

Press con-rod bearing out of con-rod and con-rod bearing cap.

  Clean

Con-rod bearing journals and con-rod bearing caps.

Caution

The contact surfaces of the con-rod and the con-rod bearing cap must be in a perfect and clean condition. In the event of damage to contact surfaces, the piston must be replaced with con-rod, as an exact fit is no longer guaranteed.

Clean contact surfaces with compressed air.

  Install

Insert new con-rod bearing shells with engine oil.

Note sequence of con-rod bearing caps.

Con-rod bearing cap – bead (1) of con-rod bearing caps points to transmission side.

Con-rod bearing cap with new bolts to con-rod – 35 Nm / 26 lbf. ft. + 45° + 15°.

Install oil baffle plate – see operation "Oil Baffle Plate, Remove and Install".
