Upper Part of Oil Pan Housing, Remove and Install > < Seal Ring - Rear Crankshaft, Replace

Lower Part of Oil Pan Housing, Remove and Install

  Remove

Disconnect ground cable from battery. Open oil drain screw – collect engine oil.

Detach wiring harness plug from dynamic oil level control connection (1), remove retaining ring (2).

Note:   Connection (1) of dynamic oil level control is below alternator.

Detach lower part of oil pan housing (3) from upper part of oil pan housing. Remove lower part of oil pan housing and hold.

For version with fluid seal: Cut silicone sealing compound with a knife and separate lower part of oil pan housing from upper part of oil pan housing using a wide spatula.

Remove dynamic oil level control connection (2) downwards from mount in upper part of oil pan housing (1).

  Clean

Remove gasket residue and clean sealing surfaces – sealing surfaces must be completely free of oil and grease.

  Install

Push new seal ring onto dynamic oil level control connection. Insert dynamic oil level control connection into mount for upper part of oil pan housing – note installation position. Push retaining ring (3) onto dynamic oil level control connection – note cable routing.

For version with metal carrier seal: Install new gasket on lower part of oil pan housing.

For version with fluid seal: Apply a 3 mm bead of silicone sealing compound (grey) at a distance of approx. 5 ± 0.5 mm from inner edge of oil pan as shown in Illustration L 2132.

Bolt lower part of oil pan housing to upper part of oil pan housing with new fastening bolts (from inside outwards) – tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. + 30°.

Caution

The application of silicone sealing compound (grey), installation of oil pan and tightening to torque and angle must be performed within 10 minutes.

Install oil drain bolt with new seal ring. For version with hexagonal bolt – tightening torque 55 Nm / 41 lbf. ft. For version with inner torx bolt – tightening torque 10 Nm / 7.5 lbf. ft. Fill engine oil to "MAX" mark at dipstick.

Connect ground cable to battery.
