Trouble-shooting

 

Nominal Value

Cause of Fault:

(If nominal value is not attained)

 

·   Disconnect pre-supply pump relay K16

·   Ignition ON

Pre-supply pump does not operate

·   Short circuit to voltage

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 8

to:           fuel pump M21

 

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 2

to:           ground

greater than 11 V

·   Short circuit to ground/ circuit interruption

from:       battery positive terminal Ter. 30

to:           base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 2

 

·   Bridge pre-supply pump relay K16 with electrically fused jumper

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 2

to:           base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 8

Pre-supply pump operates

 

Note:

The pre-supply pump runs very quietly; the noise can be heard best when the tank flap is opened.

·   Fuse F18 defective

·   Short circuit to ground

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 8

to:           fuel pump M21

·   Circuit interruption

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 8

to:           fuel pump M21

·   Circuit interruption

from:       fuel pump M21

to:           ground

·   Fuel pump M21 defective

 

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 1

to:           ground

·   Ignition ON

·   for approx. 10 to 15 s:

greater than 10 V

·   Short circuit to ground

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 1

to:           base of preheater time relay K25 Ter. 1

·   Circuit interruption

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 1

to:           base of preheater time relay K25 Ter. 1

·   Fault in circuit for preheater time relay K25 (cf. F0:DATA LIST, test steps 29 and 30)

 

·   after approx. 15 s:

lower than 0.1 V

·   Short circuit to voltage

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 1

to:           base of preheater time relay K25 Ter. 1

·   Fault in circuit for preheater time relay K25 (cf. F0:DATA LIST, test steps 29 and 30)

 

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 6

to:           ground

lower than 0.1 V

·   Short circuit to voltage

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 6

to:           wiring harness plug for alternator G2 Ter. 61

to:           wiring harness plug for instrument Ter. 13

·   Fault in alternator circuit

 

·   Engine running at idle speed

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 6

to:           ground

greater than 11 V

·   Short circuit to ground

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 6

to:           wiring harness plug for alternator G2 Ter. 61

·   Circuit interruption

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 6

to:           wiring harness plug for alternator G2 Ter. 61

·   Short circuit to ground

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 6

to:           wiring harness plug for instrument Ter. 13

·   Fault in alternator circuit

 

·   Using multimeter, measure voltage

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 2

to:           base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 4

 

greater than 11 V

·   Circuit interruption

from:       base of pre-supply pump relay K16 Ter. 4

to:           ground

 

If nominal values are attained

·   Pre-supply pump relay K16 defective
