Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct

 

The correct fluid level is of considerable importance for the functioning of the automatic transmission.

 

 

Ignition OFF

Open lid (2) for fuse box below steering wheel.

Connect TECH 1 connecting lead to diagnostic plug (1).

 

 

Before connecting the unit, observe the instructions in the TECH 1 Operating Instructions in conjunction with program module

Opel/Vauxhall Omega-B 1994 ECU".

Start engine and shift selector lever several times from "P" to "1", bringing engine to the stall speed briefly to heat up the transmission fluid more quickly.

 

 

Select the F0:DATA LIST with "YES".

 

 

Compare data list parameter for the transmission fluid temperature  with the nominal value.

 

 

Nominal value at

operating temperature: 45 to 85 °C/113 to 185 °F

Preferable value:               60 °C/140 °F

 

 

Allow engine to idle (do not switch off) and switch off all ancillary components.

Place selector lever in position "P" and engage parking brake.

Raise vehicle.

Unscrew check bolt for transmission fluid.

 

Important:

 

Note the "hot" exhaust line and "hot" transmission fluid.

Engine running at idle speed.

 

 

Top up with transmission fluid "DEXRON ® III.." to lower edge of control filler opening.

The ideal fill level of the automatic transmission is the lower edge of the filler opening.

Screw in check bolt with new seal and tighten -

33 Nm/24 lbf. ft.

Note:

 

When checking the fluid level and topping up transmission fluid, ensure utmost cleanliness as otherwise transmission malfunctions may occur.

 

 

Note:

 

If the fluid level is too low, check transmission for leaks.
