Remedy:
Replace front, cut seal ring on the oil pump side of the
drive shaft by a closed seal ring as described below.
Note:
AR 25 / 35 transmissions as of production serial
number 4834735 are already fitted with a closed seal ring.
In addition, these transmissions are marked for approx. one
month with a green dot on the intermediate casing on the front side of the
3 - 4 accumulator.
Remove transmission as described in the Service
Instructions. Close off transmission vent (1).
Mount transmission in KM 113 - A.

Detach torque converter from fluid pump with
KM - 574 or KM - 922 (for diesel engines) and remove from
converter casing.
Important:
Converter contains a large amount of transmission fluid.
|
|
Turn transmission so that converter casing faces upwards.
|
|
Remove O - ring (1) from drive shaft.
|
|
Unscrew 2 fastening bolts (arrow) for converter casing and
remove.
|
|
Insert guide pin or KM - 675 (arrows) in holes of
previously removed fastening bolts.
|
|
Unscrew remaining fastening bolts for converter casing and
remove.
|
|
Remove converter casing with fluid pump from intermediate
casing. Second mechanic presses drive shaft downwards, so that it is not
pulled out of the intermediate casing along with the overrunning clutch
assembly.
Remove seal ring (1) and gasket (2) from fluid
pump or converter casing.

|
Remove upper slotted seal ring (teflon ring) -
1 - from drive shaft.
|
|
Widen new closed seal ring - 2 - (included in
repair set) slightly and slide carefully over drive shaft and insert in
groove of previously removed seal ring.
|
|
Using sleeve contained in repair set, hold seal ring in
drive shaft groove in position for at least 3 minutes.
This is essential to ensure that the new seal ring does not
get sheared off when the fluid pump is installed.
|
|
Coat sealing surface of fluid pump thinly with assembly
grease.
Place new seal ring (1) on sealing surface of
converter casing and new gasket (2) on sealing surface of fluid pump.
|
|
Carefully place converter casing with fluid pump installed
over guide pins - 1 - onto intermediate casing.
|
|
Insert 5 bolts on outer ring of bolts and tighten
slightly. Remove both guide pins or KM - 675, insert
2 remaining bolts and likewise tighten slightly.
Tighten all 7 fastening bolts - 42 Nm /
31 Ibf. ft.
Install new O - ring (1) on drive shaft.

Turn transmission so that converter casing is horizontal.
Install torque converter on drive shaft with
KM - 574 or KM - 922 (for diesel engines).
Remove closure plug previously inserted in vent.
Install transmission as described in the Service
Instructions.
